April 2016 Blog
Welcome to Spring 2016. Greens aeration is complete and
healing, the course is greening up and the weather is turning for the better.
It’s time to dust off the clubs and get back to the course.
For those guests who take care of their own lawns it’s time
to apply your goose and crabgrass control. If you choose to make one
application at the full rate you should apply it by the second week of April.
If you choose to split the applications, this is what I recommend, I would
apply one half rate by the first week in April and the second application in
the last half of May.
The danger of applying only one application is understanding
what a pre-emergent actually does. The herbicide in the mix lays out a barrier
the keeps the weeds from emerging. An excessively wet spring can have an
adverse effect on the herbicide layer. Two applications give a better chance at
season long control.
